I recently learned my grandma wanted to be a writer. I wish we had the chance to talk more about it before her dementia set in. Which books did she like? What kind of writing was she drawn to? And why didn’t I know this earlier?
Maybe my grandma didn’t have the time and space to even think about such things. She always did value pragmatism over idealism. So, in a way, finding this out after her passing almost feels like a parting gift — to keep her dream alive.
A few things I will remember most about my grandma: her love for dancing, her homemade doenjang jjigae and her signature sunglasses with colored lenses
